Fishing Industry in Ontonagon

The Village of Ontonagon owns two historic Fish Houses on Rose Island across from the marina. There is the Wilson Fish House and the Keranen Fish Houses. These are both remnants of the once-thriving commercial fishing industry in Ontonagon, Michigan.

The Ontonagon County Historical Society has been using the Fish Houses for storage for a few decades thanks to the Village. The Village plans to pursue reconstruction work on the Fish Houses and then a new business will likely open in the Wilson Fish

ELMER WEBBER PARK BOARDWALK

Take a stroll on the wooden boardwalk next to the historic Fish Houses. You can watch boats go out to Lake Superior and even fish on one of the piers. If you’re into birding, you can walk into the center of Rose Island and find a large variety of birds.
